So it's nearly May already (how did that happen?!) and I'm only just getting around to starting my blog. The last time I jotted down all my thoughts was in my diary over 10 years ago, but lets all hope I've matured since then. I'm still unsure what my blog will actually achieve and whether or not anyone will want to subject themselves to reading about my work and life - but I will give it a go!
A little bit more about me: Hi I'm Georgia, and I'm a paper cutting addict. I started cutting holes out of paper 4 years ago now, in fact, its almost my business birthday! Good excuse for some cake right?! When I started messing around with paper, I was living with my parents and taking over their whole house with supplies. I would constantly hear "jesus christ - there's paper everywhere!", but it quickly became a passion of mine (unlike hoovering).
Ironically I was never really skilled at conventional art, like drawing and painting, and still struggle with animals and people. I think that's probably why I love cutting out flowers, they don't have to be perfect and they're far from it. I also don't have a lot of my work up in my house as I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I'd probably stare at it until I find a flaw and convince myself that I need to make a new one. So if you'd like to see a small exhibition of my work, you'd have to visit my parents' house. They have a constant rotation of my art for free and I don't have to stare at it or worry about its safety - it's a win win!
I now live with my boyfriend of almost 6 years, Tom, and our 1 year cockapoo Millie. Much to Tom's dismay and my parent's joy, I've pretty much transferred all of my mess and unnecessary junk into a tiny 2 bed terrace. So as the title suggests, I'm attempting to get organised this year. I recently had a huge clear out of clothes and some of my 40 mugs (eeeee I know - hoarder), but I feel so much better! Why hadn't I started this years ago?! Tidy house, tidy mind and all that. I'm attempting to take the same approach to my studio, which is currently full to the brim of boxes and general crap I haven't looked at since we moved in. Technically all I need is a pencil, rubber, sharpener, scalpel, blades, cutting mat and paper. So if anyone wants a headphone box with no headphones, singstars for ps2 (you know you want to), old birthday cards and a broken laptop probably from the 90's - you're in luck! Or if anyone wants to just come round and sort it for me then that'd be great too, I'll pay you in cups of tea.
Anywayyyyy, I'm currently working on this website myself so apologies for any inconsistencies/errors and here (above) is my newest piece "Reasons to be Happy". Should I make it into a print? Hmmmm...
Thanks for taking time out of your day to read this, lets be honest, pretty pointless blog. But hopefully It's given a little bit of an insight into my life and I guess I can always delete it if I someday look back and think 'what the f*ck was I on about?'
